Queen or full sleeper?

The size refers to the pull-out mattress, not the sofa. A queen sleeper is the standard choice for guests who are couples and usually fits on a sofa around 85 to 90 inches wide. A full sleeper fits a shorter sofa, roughly 70 to 80 inches, and works well in offices, dens and smaller living rooms. Sleeper mattresses are shorter than regular bed mattresses (about 72 inches long), so check the product dimensions if tall guests will use it.

Sleeper sofa or sleeper sectional?

• Sleeper sofa – looks like a standard couch; a folded mattress pulls out from under the seat cushions.
• Sleeper sectional – an L-shaped sectional with a pull-out bed in one section, so you keep the chaise for lounging and get more seating day to day.

Will it fit through my door?

Sleeper sofas are heavier and deeper than regular sofas because of the bed frame inside. Before ordering, measure the narrowest point on the way in (front door, hallway, stairwell or elevator) and compare it to the sofa's depth and height, not its width; most sofas go through doors on their side or back. What to look for

• Mattress: memory foam sleeper mattresses are thicker and more comfortable than older innerspring versions and fold more easily.
• Mechanism: a smooth pull-out frame that opens in one motion is easier to use every day.
